Cop Alerts Sleeping Resident, Dog To Fridley Blaze

Aug. 16 – A Fridley police officer awoke and helped a resident and his dog escape a raging house fire in Fridley on Thursday afternoon.

Fridley crews were dispatched at 2:56 p.m. for smoke coming from the back of a house in the 6700 block of 7th Street NE and   a police officer confirmed a working fire.  The call was upgraded to a general alarm with mutual aid being dispatched.

Fridley Rescue 2 with Inspector 1 arrived to find a multi-level single-family dwelling well involved with fire on the C-side that had extended into the eaves and attic space.

Engine 3 and Rescue 3 arrived and stretched a 2 1/2-inch hoseline to protect the B-side exposure, then advanced two pre-connects to combat the fire that was raging at the back of the house.

After knocking down the exterior fire, crews switched to an offensive strategy and advanced lines into the structure to extinguish the fire in the attic space.

Spring Lake Park-Blaine-Mounds View, Columbia Heights and Saint Anthony fire departments assisted on scene with fire control, ventilation and overhaul operations.
