July 11 - Firefighters escaped injury after a garage wall collapsed around them while they worked to control a garage fire Wednesday in Bloomington.
The fire, at 82nd Street and Harriet Avenue, was reported before 10:30 p.m. and stations 1, 3 and 4 were dispatched.
Chief 4 found smoke and flames showing from the two-stall garage and assumed command.
Engine 3′s crew deployed two pre-connects to darken down the fire and protect the nearby home. Engine 1 laid a supply line to Engine 3.
“While firefighters were working in the doorway to contain the fire, the wall collapsed around them,” Assistant Chief Jay Forster said at the scene. The entire B-side wall fell over. He said none of the members were injured.
Firefighters from Ladders 1 and 3 assisted with overhaul operations. Engine 4 and Ladder 4 were assigned to on-deck and Chief 1 was the safety officer.
The fire was brought under control in 10 minutes and most of the crews returned to service within an hour.
- Assignment: Engines 1, 3 and 4, Ladders 1, 3 and 4 and Chiefs 1, 2, 4, 6 and 7
