July 4 fell on a Monday last year, creating a busy three-day weekend for area firefighters.
Here’s a look back at the various incidents that Twin Cities Fire Wire covered over that period.
On July 2, two Minneapolis firefighters returned to work 364 days after they were seriously injured at a fire in Southeast Minneapolis. Captain Dennis Mack and Firefighter Jacob LaFerriere returned to Rescue 9 for their first shift after long hospital stays for burns and extensive rehabilitation for their injuries.
St. Paul Park firefighters were captured in action as they arrived at a garage fire on July 2. An intense fire ripped through a Ham Lake home later that night (see photo below).
On July 3, a two-alarm fire damaged a Brooklyn Park home on 94th Way. Sprinklers were credited with containing a business fire in Circle Pines and Cottage Grove firefighters battled a stubborn fire that gutted a park pavilion and damaged the nearby playground.
Lakeville firefighters started July 4 off with a garage fire just after midnight. Just hours later they responded to a fire in a warehouse. Read the story and see the photos here.
On July 5, the Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Office was shutdown along with the rest of the state offices.
